For Authors

Important note about the peer review process:

As of January 9, 2023, Insights into Imaging switches to a single-blinded peer review process,
where manuscripts sent to reviewers will no longer be anonymized or blinded,
but reviewers’ names will continue to be unknown to authors.

Manuscript submission and preparation

All manuscripts must be submitted online, via our submission system “Editorial Manager”.

Please read the submission guidelines for your article type carefully when preparing your manuscript. Contact the Editorial Office if you have any questions.

Article Processing Charge

Insights into Imaging is a gold open access journal, publishing all articles completely free to access. This also means that article processing charges (APCs) apply to all accepted manuscripts. Many institutions have SpringerOpen membership agreements with our publisher (check if your institution is one of them here); there are also other funding options (have a look here). Please contact if you have any questions in this regard.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay the article processing charges?

All articles published in Insights into Imaging are open access and freely available online, immediately upon publication. This is made possible by an article-processing charge (APC) that covers the range of publishing services we provide. This includes provision of online tools for editors and authors, article production and hosting, liaison with abstracting and indexing services, and customer services. The APC, payable when your manuscript is editorially accepted and before publication, is charged to either you, or your funder, institution or employer.

Who - when - how?

Upon editorial acceptance of an article, the corresponding author will be notified that payment is due. You need to arrange payment unless a waiver has been granted, or your institution or employer is covering the cost through the Springer Open Membership Programme.
The APC for publication in Insights into Imaging is EUR 1990/USD 2390/GBP 1690 (for 2021). No taxes are included in this charge. Authors resident in any EU country have to add Value-Added Tax (VAT, currently 20%). Institutions paying the fee on behalf of the author can in most cases have the VAT refunded, or by providing SpringerOpen with their VAT registration number (except UK), avoid paying VAT altogether.
The corresponding author of the manuscript is responsible for making or arranging the payment (for instance, via your institution) upon editorial acceptance of the manuscript.
Payment can be made by credit card or bank transfer. Please note that payment other than by credit card carries an administrative surcharge of (GBP) £50.

As of January 1, 2022 the APC charges will be EUR 2340 / USD 2795 / GBP 1985.

Are there any funding options?

If you come from a low-income country, charges are routinely waived. For other countries, APC waivers or discounts are granted on a case-by-case basis to authors with insufficient funds. If you wish to request a waiver, please select in the submission process the option “I would like to request a waiver…” and enter your reason in the provided field.

Institutional funding:
Over 500 institutions worldwide have joined the SpringerOpen Membership Program and financially support open access by paying some or all of the APCs on behalf of their researchers. Check if your institution is a Member here. In the submission process, please select “I believe that I am covered by an institutional membership arrangement…” followed by the option ‘Select institution from a list’ and choose your respective institution.

Impact Factor

Insights into Imaging received its first-ever Impact Factor in 2019. The Impact Factor 2021 is 5.036.
Together with substantially increasing downloads and social media interactions, these parameters underline that the journal is continuing to be an important and integral part of the radiologic community.

After Acceptance

Authors should make their proof corrections on a printout of the PDF file supplied, checking that the text is complete and that all figures and tables are included. Once the publication is available online, further changes can only be made in the form of an Erratum, which will be hyperlinked to the article. The author is entitled to formal corrections only. Substantial changes in content, e.g. new results, corrected values, title and authorship are not allowed without the approval of the Editor-in-Chief. In such a case please contact the Editorial Office or the Editor-in-Chief before returning the proofs to the publisher.

The publisher Springer offers free electronic offprints for all corresponding authors, and a feature of article tracking at the Springer website, where authors can see which production stage their paper is in. Orders for extra offprints can be placed when returning the order form with the corrected galley proofs to the publisher.
